Internet forums are a place for people to discuss topics that interest them and to ask questions and give advice. There is more or less a forum for every topic or hobby that people have and it's a great place to share ideas and techniques.
Forum marketing is where you join a forum related to the topic of your business, discuss and give advice to people regarding your line of business and then try and encourage people to visit your site to hopefully purchase something!
Now it's not as easy as it sounds as you have to do a lot of research first into which forum is best for you and then tread carefully because if people realise your only in a forum to sell they won't be interested.
Research which forum you think you should join in relation to your business as there is no point joining a forum on pets if you want to sell computers!
If you are an internet marketer like me then one of the best forums to join is Warriorforum.com as they have very deep discussions on all sorts of topics related to internet marketing and you can learn a lot in there.
Most forums will require you to sign up to it if they are a good forum as this limits spam, as you sign up make sure you read the rules and regulations as each one will be different and it is important you follow the rules to ensure you don't get banned from the forum!
Spend time on a signature when you sign up and make sure it is attractive to the reader so they will want to click on your link.
Spend time looking through what people are discussing and see what they think of things, you never know you may learn something yourself which is why it's an added bonus for you. Maybe you should introduce yourself as well before writing comments as this always looks as though you are there to learn and to help not to sell products.
Don't go barging in with information about your service answer queries and ask questions yourself first, but only comment if you can help someone don't comment if you can't!
It is important to create a good reputation as it allows other users to develop trust in you first and then when they look at your comments they are more likely to click on your link which will take you to your website.
Most forums do allow a link to your website or service however some don't so be wary of these as it may mean they don't like selling through forums! Just read the rules and regulations first to see what they say about it. You will find that most users of forums don't like even subtle selling so be careful how you go about it. The best method is to answer a query, say how you managed to overcome a problem and then if they ask about your product or service answer it as at least they asked you first!
There are two types of forums, there is moderated which is when the forum is monitored so each post you add it will be checked by the administrators before it will be published on the forum, and then there is unmoderated which doesn't check anything so as soon as you post a comment it will be published.
It is a good idea to return to the forum frequently and add comments and questions as it shows you are interested and want to help people which again helps build up trust with other users. You normally find that it's usually the same people who you talk to and who give advice so it's a good way to develop friendships as well which a lot of users find.
The best idea is to join a number of forums related to your topic so you have a few links coming back to your website which will improve your sales hopefully and improve your SEO, as the more back links you develop the higher you get ranked in the search engines. Just make sure you can keep up with all the forums and you can visit each of them at least once every few days.
Forums are great if you have the time to spend in them and the patience, as like I said you can't go barging in with your sales pitch, but they can be very rewarding when people learn to trust you and start clicking on your links so it's always worth a try!
