Too many marketers have created new products for the marketplace and spent time, money and energy to promote it only to find that their efforts only produced frustration, headaches and a skinny wallet. Unfortunately, these marketers have forgotten the single most important factor that will affect their product sales - the "sellability" of the product.
The most critical factor to determine when you begin to create or purchase buying rights to a certain product to sell is the demand of the product. Do people want what you've got? It makes no sense in the world to waste precious time creating a product, websites and a strong marketing campaign to find out that no one has a want, need or desire for your product!
Just so that you are absolutely clear, your ultimate goal is to deliver your product and put money in your bank account. To do this you must find a market that has a specific want, need or desire and then fill that want, need or desire with the right product. It's really that simple. In order to do this, you need to ask your customers what they want, need and desire. Ask in forums related to your niche. Conduct a survey or public poll. The Internet is an open air market, and you have the power to reach just about anyone in the world who has an Internet connection.
Let's say you have a wonderful idea on creating a step-by-step guide on how to cook Italian cuisine. First, you must find out exactly who is interested in Italian food. In this instance, you can simply go to a food related forum and tactfully ask if anyone would be interested in learning Italian cuisine. Make sure you are careful not to blatantly ask who would like to buy your eBook as you will quickly be labeled as a spammer among that forum.
The best way to research your market is to give out a few samples of your tips or recipes to see how the forum members react to them. If they show an interest and want to learn more, then you definitely have a market in this. On the other hand, if no interest is shown, it's time to look for a new idea to market. Approaching it this way will save you countless hours of working on a product that doesn't have a strong demand in the marketplace.
Okay, now that your product has piqued the interest of the forum members you surveyed, now it's time to create your extensive ebook on cooking Italian food because there is interest in the information you possess. Where there is interest, you can easily build up desire for your product, and with desire (plus good marketing), your purchases will arrive naturally!
